We’ve all heard it before – breakfast is the most important meal of the day! I would have to agree with this statement. When I don’t eat breakfast I feel like I can’t focus and I actually feel a bit irritated! Eating a good breakfast during the work week can be challenging. For most people, mornings are chaos and it’s really easy to just skip breakfast and pick up something near the office. Let’s be honest – that usually never happens and the first meal of the day ends up being lunch.
I was recently introduced to OatBox – a monthly subscription of handmade cereals made by chefs in Montreal. I love anything that will make my life simpler, and a service that ensures I’ll have a good, healthy breakfast on hand each and every day will always land in my good books!
When you sign up for this subscription, your first Oatbox comes beautifully wrapped and includes an Oatbox glass jar which encourages you to bring your oatbox cereal with you to work!
With every box you will receive 2 unique, handmade mixes of cereal each containing about 8 servings. Recipe cards are also included to give you ideas and inspiration on how to take the yummy mixes further. You can also find more ideas on their facebook page. My favourite way of eating the cereal was on top of yogurt with fruit and hemp heart seeds.
For weekdays I would put all the ingredients in a glass jar or container and enjoy as soon as I got to work. On super rushed days I took the cereal on its own and had it with a bit of milk at the office. I much preferred the Oatbox cereals to just regular cereal I used to pick up at the grocery store, since the flavours were really unique and made fresh with natural ingredients. I knew it didn’t contain anything unnecessary.
The two flavours I received were “Pears & Pine Nuts” and “100% Pure Chocolate”. I loved both but being a chocolate fan I liked that one the best! I felt like I was having dessert each morning without my breakfast being loaded with sugar!
Each box is $20 and for every box shipped $1 will be donated to support Breakfast Club of Canada with the goal of donating 50,000 breakfasts.
$20 a month for cereal may seem pricey but have you seen the prices of cereal lately? Most of them will set you back $5 – $6 a box and barely last a week. For me, because this cereal was so hearty I found I didn’t need to eat much of it to fill me up. It also put my mind at ease that through eating quality ingredients I was eating healthier too.
When you sign up for a subscription you’ll receive a new Oatbox with different mixes every month. You can cancel at any time and you can even skip months. I also love that you can preview the mixes before hand so that you’re not surprised. 3 days before your delivery is scheduled to be sent out, you’ll receive an email with the mixes that will be included. If for some reason you don’t like the flavours of the month you can choose to skip that month without any charges. Great simple food with a simple process – love it!
