Entertaining with Sabra

People spend long weekends differently; some love to entertain while others just enjoy quite time and laid back days. However you spend your long weekend, I’m sure good food is a major part of it!

For me, whether I’m snacking on my own or gathering with friends, I love foods that are easy to prepare and can be used to make fancier dishes too!

{Entertaining with Sabra Dips}

One of my favourite multi-functional foods is hummus! Did you know that last week was International Hummus Day? Seems there’s a day for everything now 😉 For me, hummus is a staple in my household. It makes my weekly grocery list as we tend to use it for everything:

  • As a dip for veggies and pita chips (my favourite brand is Stacy’s)
  • On sandwiches
  • In my breakfast wrap
  • On warm pita bread in place of toast and butter

For entertaining purposes, nothing is easier than bringing some dip worthy fresh cut vegetables, pita or corn chips and hummus! But if you want to get more creative, the Sabra Dip website has some great recipes to elevate your hummus. Here are 2 of my favourite recipes:

Mediterranean Nachos

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tablespoons Sabra Roasted Garlic Hummus
  • 2 Tablespoons Sabra Roasted Red Pepper Hummus
  • 4 Cups of Pita Chips
  • 8 – 10 Grape Tomatoes (cut in 1/2 length-wise)
  • 1/4 cup of chopped zucchini
  • 2 Tablespoons chopped Greek Olives*
  • 2 Tablespoons chopped pepperocinis**
  • 1 and 1/2 cups shredded Mozzerella

*try using the Sabra Greek Olive Hummus above in place of olives

**I would skip these and just make it vegetarian

Method:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
  • Place pita chips in a 9 – 10 inch skillet (or any similar sized oven proof pan)
  • Top with spoonfuls of the Sabra Hummus
  • Sprinkle remaining ingredients over pita chips
  • Bake 15 – 20 minutes or until cheese is melted and edges are brown
  • Serve warm

Makes 4 servings and total prep time is about 30 minutes.

This is a such a fun take on traditional nachos and the warm hummus adds such a great flavour to the dish!

Cucumber Cups

Ingredients:

  • 1 container Sabra Hummus
  • 2 English Cucumbers
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 bunch of parsley, finely chopped

Method:

  • Peel cucumbers and slice into 1 and 1/4 inch pieces
  • Using a melon baller or small spoon carve out the seeds to create a vessel, making sure to leave the bottom in tact (these serve as the “cups”)
  • Fill each cucumber cup with hummus (about 1 tsp each); if you want to get really fancy use a piping bag
  • Sprinkle with paprika and parsley

I love these simplicity of this recipe but it definitely looks fancy enough to serve at your next party!
