Movie Fun with “The Man From U.N.C.L.E”

With life being as busy as it has been lately, I haven’t been up to speed with movie watching. I did however, get a chance to check out the pre-screening of “The Man From U.N.C.L.E” before it hit theatres this weekend. I have to say, it’s been the most fun I’ve had at the movies in a while!

First off, it was pretty cool checking out the red carpet and seeing the stars visit fans in Toronto. They were so very generous – I even witnessed Henry Cavill asking fans if their photos turned out and if they wanted to redo them!

The Man From U.N.C.L.E is a fun and colourful film that has a lot of comedy and action. It’s based on the 1964 TV show (which I had never heard of), and I absolutely loved being transported into the 60’s with the sets, costumes, hair and makeup.

If you’re looking for a film with a lot of substance – this isn’t really the film to go see. The plot is pretty basic and it’s pretty predictable throughout; but to be honest that isn’t why you’d be going to see the film. Each of the characters are so fun and have each have such presence that they all play off each other – I never felt that any one of them overtook the other in anyway.

Typically with spy movies, the women play a secondary role and don’t really have strong characters, but I found both female leads to be equally charismatic. I of course loved the fashion and the attention to detail with the hair and makeup. The women stood out and popped off the screen yet neither of them bared any skin which was SO refreshing for a movie these days!

Again, this isn’t a movie that will likely be winning any awards for story line, but I would actually love to see it again just so I can be transported in time and appreciate all the little details I’m sure I missed!

If you’re looking for a fun movie to catch, I’d highly recommend this one!

Huge thanks to  Pür Minerals who offered me the tickets to the pre-screening event!

  • I love your movie review of The Man from UNCLE and I can’t wait to see it!! I heard great things about this movie esp. the actresses who played opposite sides of this spy movie! I actually did a “un-review” of Birchbox not releasing a theme box while Birchbox Man did (they made equal boxes for Mad Men and Suits which I got!).

  • I remember watching Man from Uncle reruns on saturday mornings as a kid in the early 80s but all I really remember about the show was that it was an old black and white spy show. And I think my dad was the instigator in watching it really. Still I am looking forward to seeing this movie! I am sure it will be a fun watch if not just for the eye candy 🙂
