Take Flight in Florida with Waldo Wright’s Flying Service

The next time you head towards Orlando Florida be sure to take a detour to Winterhaven, FL which is about an hour away. I’m not talking about visiting Legoland (although I’m sure the kids would appreciate it!). Kids will enjoy this one too but I think this will get the adults excited…Waldo Wright’s Flying Service.

I first discovered Waldo Wright’s Flying Service a few years ago when we were on our way to Orlando and decided to stop at Fantasy of Flight (now closed for renovations) air museum. The first time we visited we rode in an open cockpit biplane which fits 4 passengers and the pilot and is a 30 minute flight. It was so cool getting to enjoy the view from a plane without any windows in the way!

We enjoyed our first trip to Waldo Wright’s so much that we have made it a point to visit every time we were in Florida. My husband is really into flying and is even considering a pilot’s license…some day! So on each subsequent visit he flew in a WWII Stearman along with a pilot, actually learning how to fly! He’s probably done this about 4 or 5 times now and he keeps on learning new flying maneuvers.

If you’ve ever had the desire to fly a plane this is probably an experience you shouldn’t pass up. The 30 minute flight has you connected via audio to the pilot and depending on your comfort and experience level you could essentially be flying the plane on your own – including take offs and landings. For an extra $50 you can get your whole flight recorded. I would highly recommend this option so you can relive your flight over and over again.

If the flying part isn’t for you and you’re just there for moral support, Waldo Wright’s hangar is interesting too! Here you will find planes that are being restored and may also get to play with Vega!

The sweet Vega kept me company during my husband’s flight – she is kind of the “mascot” and she even stars in a children’s book!

If you’re planning on visiting the Orlando area you should definitely take advantage of this unbelievable experience with Waldo Wright’s Flying Service. Biplane rides start at $69.95 per person, Stearman rates start at $229 per person and there are also Aerobatic rides for those with strong stomachs starting at $399 per person.

I can’t wait to go back later this year!
